Statement Regarding Community Partnerships

API Equality-LA would like to thank our communities and partners for their ongoing support, especially after the highly-publicized white supremacist attacks directed at Asian and Pacific Islander communities in 2021.

Due to the influx of requests and attention received during AAPI Heritage Month and Pride Month 2021, our team took time to reflect on our individual needs around care and capacity. Centering our values around Healing Justice and Transformative Justice, we strive to build long-term relationships with community partners beyond a single conversation or interaction. These relationships cannot occur when our community and work are tokenized. The issues we speak to are not exclusive to two months out of the year, but impact our communities year-round. We are looking for partners who are genuinely interested and committed to our work, and are willing to build a sustainable relationship with us.

If your organization or company is interested in partnering with API Equality-LA or would like our participation at an event, we ask that you please consider the following prior to making your request:

  • For events during AAPI Heritage Month (May) and Pride Month (June), please contact us by April 25 at the latest.

  • For speaking engagements, including panels and trainings:

    • Please ensure that questions are shared with us at least a week in advance and/or allow for ample preparation time.

    • With respect to our time and labor, we ask that for-profit companies and organizations with an annual budget of $250,000+ provide an honorarium. Please contact us at contact@apiequalityla.org to learn more about our honorarium policy.

  • Most importantly, we ask that you determine how your organization or company plans to invest long-term in queer and trans Asian and Pacific Islander communities.

Thank you so much for your consideration and intention in partnering with us. We look forward to working with you!
