API Equality-LA Outreach Event: Nisei Week
69th Annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival and Grand Parade
The struggle to win back marriage rights for LGBT couples begins now - please join us for API Equality-LA's next outreach activity at the 69th Annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival and Grand Parade on Sunday, August 16, 2009. In anticipation of a ballot initiative to repeal Proposition 8, we will be speaking with parade-goers about marriage equality and seek to open hearts and minds among swing voters in the API community.
We will meet at 3:00 p.m. at the offices of Little Tokyo Service Center, 231 E. Third Street (near Los Angeles St.), Los Angeles, in Little Tokyo. Please look for the dial box at the entrance of the building and press 1 to be buzzed in.
Following a comprehensive orientation/training and refreshments, we will head over to the parade route to speak with parade-goers about the importance of marriage equality in the API community and try to identify our supporters. A detailed script will be provided with all our talking points, and new volunteers will be paired with a veteran outreach volunteer so that you will feel comfortable speaking with people about the subject. The outreach will conclude by 5:45 p.m. (just in time for the Grand Parade for those that want to watch it).
When: Sunday, August 16, 2009 | 3:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
