Conservative forces are circulating petitions to place an initiative on the November 2016 ballot that would repeal civil rights protections for transgender people in California. The measure would ban transgender people from using bathrooms and other facilities which align with their gender identities in all government buildings, including public schools.
The “Personal Privacy Protection Act” is one of several anti-transgender initiatives sweeping the country as opponents of equality attempt to find new wedge issues to inflame anti-LGBT sentiment, since marriage equality has become the law of the land.
On August 29, APIEquality-LA’s Crossroads 2015 symposiumwill be devoted to increasing awareness about the transgender community and strategizing about how we can defeat anti-trans bills, like the “Personal Privacy Protection Act.”
