On Friday, October 8th, Governor Brown signed the California DREAM Act (AB 131) and opened the door for undocumented students attending California universities to apply for state financial aid. The California DREAM Act will also enable undocumented students attending University of California and California State University to receive institutional grants, and to get fee waivers in California Community Colleges.

Eileen Ma, Executive Director of API Equality-LA stated, “In the past, too many talented students who excelled academically despite having to overcome tremendous obstacles had to forgo the opportunity to get a college education. The new law will give undocumented students the same opportunity that all California students enjoy. We at API Equality-LA applaud the leadership of the student activists and the elected officials who made this possible and remain steadfast in our commitment to fight for equality for immigrants and LGBT people.”
